BIO:

John Childers is a founding partner of Childers Hewett Slagle PLLC, where he brings over two decades of comprehensive experience in the energy and commercial real estate sectors. His legal practice is distinguished by a deep understanding of both traditional and alternative energy industries, as well as a robust proficiency in complex real estate transactions.

In the energy domain, John advises clients on a broad spectrum of matters, including acquisitions and divestitures of upstream and midstream assets, oil, gas, and mineral leases, and the negotiation of operating, drilling, and master service agreements. His expertise extends to alternative energy projects, encompassing solar and wind development, as well as lithium and brine extraction projects, where he navigates the intricate regulatory and transactional landscapes to facilitate successful project execution.

John's real estate practice encompasses the full lifecycle of commercial property ventures. He represents landlords and tenants in leasing negotiations, guides developers through acquisition and development processes, and manages the complexities of property dispositions. His experience includes handling landlord-tenant disputes, structuring development agreements, and overseeing asset acquisition and disposition strategies.

Before co-founding the firm in 2020, John held executive roles in independent upstream exploration and production companies, including positions as Land Manager, General Counsel, Vice President of Land, Executive Vice President of Exploration and Production, Chief Operating Officer, and President. This industry experience provides him with a unique perspective that enhances his legal counsel.

John holds a B.A. and a Certificate in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Houston and earned his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Professional Landmen, the Dallas Association of Petroleum Landmen, the Fort Worth Association of Petroleum Landmen, the American Bar Association, and the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law.

Outside of his professional endeavors, John enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking, and engaging in outdoor activities such as fishing and hunting in the Piney Woods of East Texas.
