BIO:

John grew up in Nacogdoches, Texas, and currently resides in Lucas, Texas. He attended the University of Houston while working as a landman in the oil and gas industry, and subsequently earned a Certificate in Petroleum Land Management from the University. John obtained his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

During and after his undergraduate and graduate studies, John worked in the oil and gas industry as an independent field landman and co-owner of a land services firm. From 2006 to 2015 John held the following positions with independent domestic upstream exploration and production companies: Land Manager, Land Manager and General Counsel, Vice President - Land, Executive Vice-President - Exploration and Production, Chief Operating Officer and President. During this time, John led the management of exploration and production operations, the acquisition and divestiture of various onshore assets, as well as the legal, regulatory, and exploration efforts for in-situ uranium mining in South Texas.

In 2015 John transitioned from working in-house to practicing law full-time and in early 2020 John co-founded Childers Hewett Slagle PLLC. John’s practice focuses on providing counsel to landowners, exploration and production companies, midstream companies, royalty and mineral buying and selling entities, commercial real estate clients, and various other clients for corporate and business law matters.

When not working, John spends his time at home with his family, woodworking, and fishing and hunting in the Piney Woods of East Texas
