Spotlight Attorney - Carly Hewett

What's your favorite part of working at Childers Hewett Slagle?

I love working with this amazing group of people – both those within the firm as well as our clients!

What are some career lessons you've learned thus far?

When you get a raise or bonus, use those funds to outsource something that will make your life run more smoothly (and that you really don’t like to do), such as hiring someone to do your laundry or cook for your family a few days a week.

Why did you decide to pursue the career you have today?

I needed a job! Seriously though, I somewhat fell into this career but have stayed because I enjoy working with the people in this industry and love the challenge of the work. It’s a fun mix of a few different types of law, with some math thrown in to keep it interesting!

What is the last book you read?

I love to read purely for enjoyment, meaning mostly fiction with a memoir or two thrown in. While I’m never on the cutting edge of the latest and greatest book (I’m usually behind on my “to be read” list), I recently enjoyed The Night She Disappeared and Hillbilly Elegy.

What does a typical day look like for you?

If mom doesn’t wake up first to get ready for work, everyone will be late! What is somehow equally as true is that no matter how early mom wakes up, everyone will still be rushing out the door at the last minute! Once we’ve accomplished getting everyone to their respective school or office, anything is possible.

Are you a sports fan? Who are your favorite teams?

I am a huge sports fan, and regardless of how many times they break my heart, I will root for my Aggies always and forever!

What show are you currently binge-watching?

When I get a chance to watch a show by myself, I love a good light-hearted binge! When I had Covid this past year, I managed to get through both Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias! Emily in Paris is fun one also! On the slightly less light-hearted side, I also couldn’t look away from You and Flight Attendant.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Professionally, I pray that I’m still here at CHS practicing law with a wonderful team for the best clients! Personally, Clay and I will have a 14-year-old and twin 10-year-olds by then, and I can’t even begin to predict what that will look like!
