Spotlight Attorney - Christian Garcia
Meet this month's Spotlight Attorney: Christian Garcia!
What's your favorite part of working at Childers Hewett Slagle?
My favorite part of working at Childers Hewett Slagle PLLC is the culture of excellence without ego. The work is sophisticated, and the expectations are high, yet collaboration remains genuine and unguarded. Ideas are tested openly, questions are encouraged, and everyone is focused on getting the answer right for the client. That environment fosters meaningful growth for young professionals—refining technical skills and professional judgment through high expectations, open dialogue, and a shared commitment to doing the work the right way.
What show are you currently binge-watching?
Alone (season 11) on Netflix.
What are some career lessons you've learned thus far?
A few lessons stand out.
First, clients don’t just hire counsel to “be right”—they hire someone who can provide a clear path forward. Precision matters, but a complete answer also addresses the practical implications of an issue and outlines realistic solutions.
Second, details decide outcomes. Taking the extra pass at the decimals in an ownership table or refining the wording in a requirement can be the difference between work product that is “good enough” and one that clients can confidently rely on for years.
Third, consistency compounds. Showing up prepared, responsive, and steady over time builds a reputation that is far more powerful than any single win.
What is the last book you read?
The Dichotomy of Leadership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin.
Why did you decide to pursue the career you have today?
I was drawn to a career that rewards precision, sound judgment, and accountability. I’ve always enjoyed solving complex problems where the stakes are real and decisions depend on clear analysis. Oil and gas title work sits at the intersection of law, business, and strategy—combining property law, contracts, history, and math in a way that is both intellectually demanding and highly practical.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Disciplined, principled, loyal.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who quietly do hard things well, over a long period of time—whether that is building a business, raising a family, or training for a race. There’s something compelling about steady, quiet competence. In our practice, that often shows up in clients navigating complex issues with patience and integrity. It also shows up in mentors who invest in developing others, understanding that the strength of a firm is built over decades, not quarters.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
One thing on my bucket list is hiking the Inca Trail through the Andes to Machu Picchu. I visited as a child, but I’d love to return and complete the full 4-day trek, earning the sunrise view from the Sun Gate after days of climbing and altitude. It’s less about revisiting the destination and more about experiencing it with intention—training for it, embracing the challenge, and gaining a deeper appreciation for the history and effort behind it.
What’s your favorite movie?
Good Will Hunting
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself as a senior leader at CHS and a trusted advisor in the energy industry—someone clients call when a matter is complex, sensitive, or needs clear judgment. I want to be known for bringing calm structure to difficult issues and producing work that stands up to scrutiny from both legal and operational perspectives. I also hope to be mentoring younger attorneys, helping them sharpen both their technical precision and professional judgment. Personally, I aim to have built a life with margin—room for family, health, travel, and work I’m proud to sign my name to.
