Spotlight Attorney - Dan Sexton
Meet this month's Spotlight Attorney: Dan Sexton!
What's your favorite part of working at Childers Hewett Slagle?
The people and the work-life balance. The team here at CHS makes it easy to enjoy the work we do. No matter how busy life may be outside of the office, the commitment and support of everyone makes it possible to produce and deliver the work we need to do to meet firm and client expectations.
What are some career lessons you've learned thus far?
Consistency and intent. I have found that it’s helpful to approach all aspects of work with the same level of care and effort to have the best control over my work. Additionally, if co-workers and clients know what to expect, communication can focus on the things that matter most, and feedback is more effective.
Why did you decide to pursue the career you have today?
I grew up around oil and gas and always had an interest in working in the energy industry. When I moved to Dallas to attend SMU, I started to have an interest in going into law and becoming an oil and gas attorney felt like the best fit for me. I’m never bored working in a profession that is constantly teaching me new things about topics I am interested in and challenging me to develop my knowledge on different areas of law.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who take ownership and are proactive in their lives. I always enjoy learning from people, throughout history and around me today, who are resourceful and persistent to work through any challenges they may face.
What is the last book you read?
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Are you a sports fan? Who are your favorite teams?
Football, hockey, and basketball are my favorite sports to watch. I was lucky to be raised a fan of the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos, and Denver Nuggets. It’s also a great time to be a fan of the SMU Mustangs.
What’s your favorite holiday?
Christmas
What’s your favorite movie?
I don’t think I can narrow it down to any one movie, but I will never get tired of watching the Pirates of the Caribbean.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Learn to play the banjo. I have one, but I still need to commit time to learn it.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Alaska cruise. I went to Alaska a few times when I was younger and there’s still so much there I want to explore.
