Spotlight Attorney - Kelsey Womack
Meet this month's Spotlight Attorney: Kelsey Womack!
What's your favorite part of working at Childers Hewett Slagle?
Undoubtedly, my favorite part about working at Childers Hewett Slagle is the people who work at the firm. CHS is filled with people who want to see you succeed. Everyone here is kind and willing to lend a helping hand. Best of all, every single person at the firm is filled with joy, which creates the most enjoyable working environment. The saying “There’s no place like home” could be reconfigured to “There’s no place like CHS”, a firm where laughter rings out and hard work and ethics are displayed.
What are some career lessons you've learned thus far?
The first is to be curious. I’ve learned that the best way to learn anything is to consistently ask questions because it’s the best way to expand your knowledge and make yourself better at your practice. The second is to observe. It can be very formative to observe how the more senior associates and partners conduct business with clients and analyze different projects based on client necessities.
Why did you decide to pursue the career you have today?
Reading and writing have always been passions of mine, and after taking my Business Law course at Baylor I realized a legal career was the clear choice. I wanted a career that challenged me, sharpened my mind, and kept me curious. Additionally, helping people, in any type of capacity, fills my heart with joy, and a license to practice law allows me that honor.
What inspires you?
My family! I come from the most loving and supportive family, and one that works incredibly hard. May family is comprised of all types of professions: education, medicine, and finance. All of my family members have taught me to be eager to learn, patient with the learning process, and grateful for every opportunity to make myself a better person and employee. They each obtain two traits that have always stuck with me throughout my education and early career. The first is grit. Through peaks and valleys, they’ve always made sure to put their best foot forward, all the while being a loving and supportive family member. The second is faithfulness. They have demonstrated that in every season of life, their relationship with God is what is most important in every endeavor. It’s been a great reward to put into practice all that they have taught me.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
What is the last book you read?
Theo of Golden by Allen Levi
What’s your favorite holiday?
Christmas! I love when my family comes together and we all get to participate in our family traditions: gingerbread house decorating competitions, watching It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, and attending the 11pm Christmas service that ends in “Silent Night” at the crux of midnight. A close second is the Fourth of July – I’m excited to celebrate 250 years of the USA!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I’d like to learn how to play the piano.
What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever visited?
It’s a tie between London and Paris. I love how London is full of history and tradition and how Paris is full of beautiful artwork and delicious restaurants.
Describe your ideal weekend.
An ideal weekend for me includes great weather to enjoy while running at White Rock Lake, grabbing lunch with my friends, and playing mahjong in the evening. Also to be included would be some time to needlepoint while listening to my favorite podcasts and time spent at Church with a lunch at Eatzi’s afterwards!
